We often say that a shelter animal is in need of a fresh start, but how many get to travel across the country for the chance at finding their forever home?
ACSKC is happy to welcome Toodle, Maggie, Marley, Kenzie, Mojo, Rupert and Choppa to the Eastern Shore! These seven dogs have just arrived from our partner in Louisiana, St. Tammany Parish Department of Animal Services, a high-intake shelter who must often endure max-capacity status.
Here’s what we know about each of these pups so far:
𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗹𝗲 is a Border Collie-mix who was surrendered by his owner. At only 27.1 pounds, he’s on the smaller side, and around a year old. He seems like a very sweet boy who is dog friendly.
𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘆 and 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗴𝗶𝗲 came from the same home, but may not be from the same litter. They can be shy at first, so continued socialization is an absolute must for these girls. They are both 8 months old. Marley is 22.1 pounds. Maggie is 20.9 pounds.
𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗲 was adopted out by the Louisiana shelter a few years ago as a puppy, but sadly her owner has died, and she ended up back with them, confused, worried and totally overlooked. She is a 5-year-old lab-mix, weighing 64 pounds. She is very calm and has a sweet temperament.
𝗠𝗼𝗷𝗼 was a St.Tammany staff favorite! He’s just a happy, handsome lab-mix. Mojo was kenneled with another dog in their shelter and did very well with her. When he was cat tested, he was more scared of the cat than anything. He may be able to live with cats with proper introductions!
𝗥𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 came to the Louisiana shelter as a stray, so not much is known about him. They estimate he is a year old, and weighs 52 pounds. He is presumed to be an Australian Shepherd-mix. He is dog friendly!
𝗖𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗮 was brought to the Louisiana shelter as a stray, but after some digging an owner was found. Refusing to come by the shelter to sign the simple “owner surrender” paperwork, this big goofball had to sit in the high-intake shelter while the legal system played out, and he became a ward of the parish. Louisiana feels that they have to do right by him with all he’s been through. Hopefully the Eastern Shore will provide him with the fresh start he needs!
