Volunteer Opportunities

How You Can Help

ACSKC has a variety of volunteer opportunities. Interested in working directly with the animals? Have a deep appreciation for administrative and clerical work? Want to interact more with the community? Before filling out our application, learn more about all the different ways you can get involved:

Animal Enrichment

Help keep animals happy and active by assisting with dog walks, playgroups or socializing cats and dogs.

Administrative Support

Use your organizational skills to assist with filing, mailings, data entry and other clerical tasks.

Upkeep Crew (Non-animal handling)

Everything runs more smoothly when the towels are clean and the shelves are stocked! Help manage the never-ending loads of laundry, dishes, sort donations, and maintain the trails and grounds.

Photography & Promotion

It’s a fact that adoptable animals with great photos have a better chance of catching the eye of potential adopters. We’re always looking for talent in photography, graphic design and video editing.

Community Outreach & Special Events

Help share information about our mission and programs by attending special events as an ambassador. This may include distributing flyers and providing support at our fundraisers or community events.

Transportation

Volunteers use their own vehicles to transport animals and/or resources to our rescue partners.

... and more!

Frequently Asked Questions

ACSKC’s insurance covers volunteers who are 16 years of age and above. While children under 16 are not able to volunteer in our typical volunteer duties, we have a variety of community outreach programs and at-home projects available!

Volunteers are required to commit to a minimum of 8 hours per month for a period of 3 months. Due to the length of time it takes to become a fully trained volunteer and the number of staff resources used to train, we want to make sure we are training volunteers who are committed to volunteering at ACSKC long-term. Volunteers are more than welcome to serve more than 8 hours per month if they choose to do so. We also understand that volunteers are not always able to meet the monthly hour requirement, due to work or family obligations, emergencies, injuries, or other similar obligations. If you will not be able to meet the required minimum of 8 hours of service in a given month, please email the Volunteer Coordinator.
Once a volunteer application has been submitted, the volunteer team will review the information provided and reach out to you regarding next steps. The email will outline the details of how to sign up for volunteer orientation. Once a volunteer has completed orientation and submitted a signed Volunteer Release of Liability, then the volunteer can begin donating their time to ACSKC.
Yes, we sure do! No previous animal handling experience is needed! We offer a robust training program for working with shelter cats and tiered-color level program for walking dogs

While there aren’t any one-time volunteer opportunities at this time, there are plenty of ways you can help the animals! Visit our Youth Programs & Activities page for some ideas.

We will be offering volunteer opportunities for groups in the future. We are still developing our program, so please check back again soon.
